Samuel Burtch
Samuel Burtch died in Omer at 6:00 a. m. Tuesday, Jan. 31. He was buried Wednesday afternoon in Cedar Valley cemetery. Services were held in the Claude Forshee undertaking parlors at Twining, Rev. A. A. Glen officiating. A number of old friends of the deceased from Moore's Junction attended the funeral.
Mr. Burtch was born in England. He spent his early life taking care of a widowed mother. After spending a few years in South Africa, he returned to England and married Mrs. Elizabeth Dawe and then came to Michigan. For the past 37 years he has resided in Moore's Junction and in Gladwin county. In character he was somewhat unique but was always industrious, honest, unselfish and deeply religious. "Uncle Sammy," as his friends called him, will always be held in kindly remembrance by those who knew him best.
At the time of his death he was 84 years old and had no surviving relatives.
