James Burke
RUSSELL BURKE DIES SUDDENLY
James Russell Bourke, 50, died at the Saginaw General Hospital, on Saturday, January 26,
after a short illness. Funeral services were held on Monday at 10 a.m., from the Sacred Heart
church in Gladwin. Burial took place in the Highland cemetery. Rev. Fr. Eugene Forbes, nephew
of Mr. Bourke, of Ottawa University, Rev. Fr. Albert Baumann, and Rev. Fr. K. E. McGinn officiated.
The Rev. Fr. Norbert Forbes, another nephew, acted as Master of Ceremonies.
Mr. Bourke was born in Gladwin township, on April 22, 1895, and has lived in the county nearly
all of his life. HE was a veteran of World War I, and at the time of his death was employed by the
Michigan State Highway Department. On August 3, 1920, he was married to Miss Marie Kane, in Gladwin.
The first ten years of their married life were spent in Saginaw, after which they returned to Gladwin
county.
Surviving are his wife; four sisters, Mrs. Joseph Sullivan, and Mrs. Eugene Forbes, of Saginaw,
Mrs. Guy Seymour, of Ypsilanti, and Mrs. John Patterson, of Sebewaing; and one brother, Justin Bourke,
of Miami, Florida.
