Brief Illness Takes R.W. Burgess

   Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Beaverton Presbyterian Church for Ransom W. Burgess, 70, who died Thursday at University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, after a short illness. The Rev. Aaron D. Hyde officiated and burial was in Highland Mausoleum, Gladwin.

   Born in Moores Junction, Arenac County, on Sept. 13, 1893, he was married to the former Ellen Ogg in Beaverton in 1926. A veteran of World War 1, he had operated a grocery store and meat market in Beaverton many years until his retirement. Prior to that he was employed in Gladwin markets. A Beaverton resident for 50 years, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Beaverton Presbyterian Church, Beaverton American Legion Post and the Farm Bureau.

   Survivors include his wife, Ellen; two sons, James, of Beaverton, and Kenneth, of Midland; and one daughter, Mrs. Nelson Davis, of Beaverton; a sister, Mrs. Leo Paquet, of Mackinaw City; and six grandchildren.
