John R. Brown
CLARE COUNTY
John R. Brown, a former sheriff of Clare county,
died at his home in Harrison, Feb. 7, aged 73 years,
11 months and 14 days. He was born in Ontario and came
to the state at the age of 16, working in the lumber
woods for Scott Gerrish, also later was connected with
Jonathan Boyce lumber interests and Bay Shore Lumber
Co. In early days he operated the Johnson House, now
the Ohio Tavern at Harrison. During the last 25 years
he had been in the real estate business. For many
years he was a member of the Harrison board of
education and at various times represented his ward on
the board of supervisors. He had been in poor health
since last fall, but had been about the house the day
previous to his death, and the deep sleep of death
came while he was resting comfortably on a couch. The
deceased is survived by his wife and three sons,
Garfield A. of Midland, J. Robert and Carl C. of
Harrison..
