John Brown
John A. Brown, 71, of Gladwin, formerly of Saginaw, passed away Friday, July 15 at his home. He was born Aug. 12, 1933 in Saginaw to John J. and Anne Trumble Brown. John married the former Lydia Kassin on Feb. 13, 1954 in Saginaw; she survives him. John graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1951 and then served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Central Michigan University in 1960 and began his career in education as assistant principal at Bridgeport-Spaulding High School. He was at Merrill High School from 1967-69 and came to Gladwin for the 1969-70 school year. He retired as principal in Gladwin in 1988. He enjoyed his retirement spending winters in Bull Head City, Arizona. He belonged and was active in many of Gladwin’s community service organizations along with the Monday Night Men’s Golf League, bowling and his favorite, the Gladwin Library Club.
Surviving are his wife, Lydia; three daughters, Terri Lee (Kevin) Kroll of Ortonville, Tracy (George) Toskey of Midland, and Tammy (Milton) Pierce of Clinton Township; nine grandchildren; one Great granddaughter; brother-in-law, Ed Firmingham of Saginaw; and several nieces and nephews. Two grandchildren, Jillian and Sarah Toskey, and two sisters, Nellie Kingsbury and Mary Firmingham, predecease him.
Funeral services were July 19 at the Sisson Funeral Home in Gladwin. Rev. James Stratton officiated. A committal service was at Roselawn Cemetery in Saginaw. Memorials may be made to Mid Michigan Hospice/Visiting Nurses.
