Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Richard Briggs

   Richard “Dick” E. Briggs, 74, of Swartz Creek, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005 at Fostrian Manor.

   Dick was born Feb. 16, 1931 in Detroit, the son of Ephriam and Stella (Smith) Briggs. He married Ruby Buzzell on July 14, 1950 and she preceded him in death on Oct. 16, 1997. Dick served in the U.S. Navy, had been employed by Dow Chemical and retired from GM in 1993. He sold real estate for several years and was a founding member of the Swartz Creek Chamber of Commerce. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman.

   Surviving are three children, Cheryle (Jerry) Mulholland of Bancroft, Cindy Briggs of Boston, Massachusetts, and Ray (Susan) Briggs of Flushing; five grandchildren, Tanya (Stewart), Robert, Jerry, Jacquelyn (Shawn), Ryan; one Great-grandchild, Kailea; two sisters, Mary Ruth Grinnell and Lou Ellen Myers; a special aunt and uncle, Reva and Roger Briggs; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Roger; and a brother, Don.

   Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Rd., Swartz Creek. Interment followed the service at Highland Cemetery in Gladwin.

   Visitation was held Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Beaverton Cedar River Chapel, 2766 River Road, P.O. Box 513, Beaverton, MI 48612.
