Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Geneva Boakes

   Geneva Pauline Boakes, 89, of Gladwin died June 21, 2006 at Gladwin Pines Nursing Home after a long illness. She was born March 27, 1917 to Lester and Edna Ballard in Eldorado, Illinois. She married Delbert R. Boakes on March 14, 1949 in Gladwin. She was a lifetime resident of Gladwin, a homemaker and a phone operator for Michigan Bell.

   Surviving are her sons, Dennis (Judy) Boakes of Clare and Melvin Ireland of Otisville; her grandchildren, Jeff (Brianne) Boakes of Clare, Scott (RoseAnn) Ireland of Bridgeport, and Nicole (Amos) Gusha of Burton; her great grandchildren, Taiylor and Alexandria; her sisters, Peggy (Jack) Cameron of Gladwin and Donna Benchley of Beaverton; her brothers, Paul (Eunice) Ballard of Gladwin, Don (Darlene) Ballard of Bridgeport, and Bob (Verna) Ballard of Evart; her sister-inlaw, Rose Phillips of Midland; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter-in-law Patsy Ireland (2005); her brother-in-law Dan Benchley; her sister-in-law Marie Murphy; and another brother-in-law Homer Phillips.

   A funeral service was held Saturday, June 24 at Hall Funeral Home in Gladwin with Rev. Donald Potter officiating. Burial followed in Butman Cemetery in Gladwin. Memorial contributions may be made to Mid Michigan Hospice.
