Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
Ruey Blades

   Ruey E. Blades, 93, of Midland died Jan. 27, 2005 at Mid- Michigan Stratford Village in Midland. She was born in Gladwin County July 5, 1911 to Eugene Sr. and Ruth E. (Robinson) Freeman. She married Percy Dewey Blades in Tobacco Township on Dec. 6, 1931; he died in 1978.

   Mrs. Blades was a lifetime resident of Gladwin County. She owned and operated the Dale Store from 1940 to 1956. Ruey won a state award for third place in Algebra in 1930 and graduated from Beaverton High School in 1931 as Valedictorian. She was a member of Dale United Methodist Church, was a Gladwin County 4-H Leader for 15 years, and was a member of the Woman’s Society Christian Service in Beaverton.

   Surviving are her children, Donald Blades of Beaverton, Ruth (William) Maxwell of Hope, Norma (J.J.) Maxwell of Beaverton, Mary Blades of Midland, and Dawn Virgil of Midland; 10 grandchildren, 23 Great grandchildren and six Great great grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Freeman, Jr. of Gladwin; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and two sisters, Rhoda Cole and Netta Freeman.

   Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at Hall Funeral Home in Beaverton, with Rev. James Shanks officiating. She was buried in Dale Cemetery in Tobacco Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Dale United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall or MidMichigan Hospice.
