Alvin Behnke
Alvin H. Behnke of 106 E. Main St., Durand, passed away Friday, June 4 at
Owosso Memorial hospital at the age of 65. He had operated a shoe repair business here for
30 years. Mr. Behnke had been in failing health for the past year. Funeral services were held
Monday, June 7 at Bellows Funeral Home with Pastor Ralph Tedder officiating. Interment was in
Greenwood cemetery, Vernon. The family requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer
Society.
Mr. Behnke was born Jan. 21, 1906 in Princeton, Minn., the son of Frank and
Katie Behke. He was married to Rose Menzel in Flint, July 12, 1936. Mr. Behnke Had lived in
Durand for 30 years, and previously in Flushing, where he was a shoe repairman for 10 years. He
lived in Gladwin in his youth and also again in the early forties when he operated a shoe repair
shop here for a short time.
Surviving are his widow; three daughters, Mrs. William (Rose Marie) Burns of Vernon,
Mrs. Karroll (Katherine) Knapp of Durand, Judy at home; one son, Gerald at home; six grandchildren;
five brothers, William, Henry, August and Clarence, all of Gladwin, and Edward of Durand; two sisters,
Mrs. Ella Hall of Lennon and Mrs. Millie Keyworth of Michigan City, Ind. An infant son and two brothers
preceded him in death.
