John Battees

Prominent Resident Of Sherman Twp. Answers Final Summons.

   John Casner Battees died March, 14, 1916, at his home in Sherman township, aged 69 years, 3 months and 7 days, after an illness of eight weeks. Mr. Battees was born at Marysville, Union county, Ohio, Dec. 7, 1846, and lived at home until Jan. 8, 1874, when he was united in marriage to Mary E. Richards. They move to Paulding county, Ohio, where they resided until August 1899, when they moved to Michigan and settled on a farm in Sherman township, where they lived until the summons came to answer the final call of One who doeth all things well. Mrs. Battees died November, 1912. Mr. Battees joined the Christian church in early manhood and was always a consistent member of the same. He served his country in the Civil war and was a member of Thomas J. May Post of Charlie, Ohio.

   Mr. Battees was the father of six children, of whom five are living to mourn his loss --- John S. Battees of Mishawakee, Flora E. Stuck, Lulu P. Kelly, Myrtle E. Austin and Walter V. Battees, all of Sherman township. He also leaves three sisters and 11 grandchildren. Mr. Battees was a kind father, a good neighbor, and will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Hygema from the German Baptist church at Round Lake Friday morning at 10:30 o'clock, followed by interment in Ridge cemetery.
