Robert Basinger
Robert “Bob” F. Basinger, 86, of Beaverton passed away Nov. 8, 2007 at Tender Care Nursing Home in Clare following a long illness.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio on March 6, 1921 to Floyd and Gretchen (Leugebacher) Basinger.
Bob graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1939. He was employed as a purchaser for Dow Chemical in Midland for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He also served his country in the United States Army and World War II. He was a resident of Gladwin County since 1970, previously residing in Midland.
He was affiliated with the Midland Elks Lodge 1610, Midland American Legion Post 165, Gladwin VFW Post 11256, Edenville Knights of Columbus 12660, Billings Senior Citizens, and St. Anne Catholic Church in Edenville. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions fan, loved playing Euchre, family gettogethers, and had a great love for gardening – especially growing roses.
Bob married Lucille H. Rooker on Nov. 9, 1946 in Saginaw. She preceded him in death in 2005. He is survived by his daughters, Sue (Alton) Hitsman and Sharon (John) Myers, all of Beaverton, Nancy (Tony) Roehrs of St. Louis, Missouri, Shirley Brown of Alma, and Betty (Brad) Redman of Beaverton; his son, James (Carol) Basinger of Atlanta, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren; and three stepgreat- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; granddaughter, Jennifer Hitsman; parents; two brothers, Don and Clarence; and two sisters, Ethel Mae and Barbara Jean.
Funeral services were held Nov. 10, 2007 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Edenville with Father Raymond Moeggenberg officiating. He was laid to rest in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw. The military honors were performed by Midland American Legion Post 165. Memorial contributions can be made to Pardee Cancer Fund, St. Anne Catholic Church in Edenville, or Midland American Legion Post 165.
