Lucille Basinger
Lucille H. Basinger, 85, of Beaverton died June 30, 2005 at MidMichigan Medical Center in Clare after a long illness.
She was born in Saginaw on Nov. 23, 1919 to Charles and Harriett (Schwannecke) Rooker. Lucille was a cadet nurse in the navy during WWII in Seattle, Washington for which she was recently honored on the American Service Woman’s Memorial in Arlington, Virginia. She worked as a nurse at Saginaw County Hospital and Saginaw General, and retired from Midland Hospital and MidMichigan Visiting Nurse in 1976. She married Robert Basinger in Saginaw on Nov. 9, 1946. Lucille had lived in Gladwin County since 1970, having previously resided in Midland. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Edenville and Senior Citizens Club of Billings Township.
Surviving are her husband, Robert Basinger of Beaverton; six children, Sue (Alton) Hitsman of Beaverton, James (Carol) Basinger of Alexander, Virginia, Sharon (John) Myers of Beaverton, Nancy (Tony) Roehrs of St. Louis, Missouri, Shirley (Bill) Brown of Windsor, and Betty (Brad) Redman of Beaverton; 10 grandchildren and two Great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Harry Rooker; his sister, Eva Rooker; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Hitsman.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 3 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Edenville with Sister Mary Ellen McDonald officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw. A prayer vigil service was held July 2. Memorial contributions may be made to Pardee Cancer Fund.
