Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice
 
John Baker

   John R. Baker, 67, of Gladwin, formerly of Paden City, West Virginia, died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Gladwin Pines Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was born on April 24, 1938 in Middlebourne, West Virginia the son of Lloyd and Vonda Mae (Doak) Baker. He graduated from Tyler County High School and West Virginia Business College in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He worked for Wiser Oil Company in West Virginia and Dallas, Texas for 38 years, moving to Flint and then to Gladwin. He enjoyed gardening and watching sports. He was a member of Church of Christ in Middlebourne.

   He is survived by his wife, Geraldine (“Gerry”) (Petitti) Baker of Gladwin; three sisters, Violet (Paul) Shuman of Flint, Martha (Leroy) Burley of Flint, and Ida Louise (Robert) Jones of Norton, Ohio; two brothers, Paul (Clara) Baker of New Martinsville, West Virginia, and David Baker of Oceanside, California; several nieces and nephews; in-laws Pena (Ray) Larson of Gladwin, James Petitti of Grand Blanc, and Geno (Jan) Petitti and Remonia Hostetler of Flint. John leaves behind many loving friends and care givers from Gladwin Pines Nursing Home in Gladwin.

   Funeral services were held on Monday, May 16 at the Swartz Funeral Home with Rev. David Sprang and Dr. Jim Grotts officiating. Interment was at Crestwood Cemetery, in the Garden of the Good Shepherd, in Grand Blanc.

   A memorial service will be held for John in Gladwin at Christ the King Lutheran Church on May 26 at 1 p.m. for those wishing to express their sympathy to the family. If desired, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in John’s name.
