John Backen
John W. Backen, 82, of Gladwin passed away Nov. 25, 2006 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Gladwin after a long illness.
He was born June 13, 1924 to Knute and Martha (Hjesvold) Backen in Detroit.
John was a United States Army veteran, having served in World War II. He lived in Gladwin County for the past 14 years; he previously resided in Warren.
He is survived by one sister, Virginia Hoffman of Gladwin; three nephews, Ron Crachiola, Joe Crachiola and Carl Hoffman; three nieces, Karen Matrille, Ingrid Register and Jamie Hoffman; and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Hill and Margaret Crachiola; and one brother, Kenneth Backen.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006 at Hall- Kokotovich Funeral Home in Gladwin. Rev. David Sprang officiated.
Burial took place at McClure Cemetery in Gladwin.
