Gladwin County Obituary/Death Notice

Kate Austin

A magnificent lady has left us. Kate Austin was born Sept. 15, 1947 and died Feb. 19, 2008. She finally gave in to the effects of kidney cancer. Kate suffered quietly, privately; that’s the way she was.

Kate made and left a mark on the world. Wherever she was, whomever she touched, whatever she did, Kate’s grace, humor, wisdom and above all, her love of life, lifted those around her. She leaves a crater of emptiness and sorrow for all who knew her and loved her.

Kate’s remains were cremated Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 with services ably rendered by The Cremation Society of Mid- Michigan. Special thanks go out to the management and staff of MidMichigan Home Care, who looked after Kate during her final weeks; Dr. Michel Hurtubise, who gave guidance and good counsel for 16 months he knew and treated Kate; Dr. Ulke Vaishampayan, who made a valiant effort in the early days of diagnosis to reverse the disease.

Finally, and most important, to the family members and friends who remained steadfast in their love for Kate. It sustained her and gave her the strength and optimism to stay with us as long as she did. Kate will be remembered with fondness and with deep sorrow at her early passing by her son John and his partner Trish; by Patricia and Bill, her sister and brother; by Stephen, Leslie, Jamie and Patti, her nieces and nephews in Michigan; by Sean, Tracy, Althea, Gabriel, Noelle, David, Nevaeh, Margaret, Raymond, Marion, Allan and Christine, her extended family in Canada; and by her husband, her constant companion, her Axel.

It is respectfully suggested that contributions and donations to commemorate Kate’s life and her deep and abiding love of animals should be made to Best Friends Animal Society in Angel Canyon, near Kanab, Utah.
